5 Places to Visit Near Shannon

Probably the most important place near Shannon Town is the Shannon River and the most amazing part of the river worth visiting is its Estuary which is almost 100km. Here Atlantic and Shannon unites producing an amazing environment for marine life. Limeric City is situated here which is famous for Norman architecture such as King John’s Castle and st. Marry Cathedral. The headland on the north side of the mouth is known as Loop Head where a prominent lighthouse presents the most eye catching view. Kerry Head is situated to the south side of the estuary and is famous for its Dolphin-Watching.

Burren National Park is one on the attractions in Ireland, it is located in the southeastern corner of the Burren and contains examples of all the major habitats within the Burren; limestone pavements, Calcareous Grasslands, hazel woodland, lakes Petrifying spirits, cliffs and fen all could be found at this one spot so if one is interested in landscapes it is the best destination to explore.

Bunratty Castle is probable the most attractive place for art and history lovers. The Castle stands tall with all its former glory and you can enjoy a night a medieval entertainment here. A four course meal is served in the traditional style and the banquet continues for 2 hours. When you arrive kilted pipers welcome you and make you feel like royalty and then soon afterwards you are taken to witness a crowning. River Shannon is probably the most important place to visit while you are in Ireland as all the settlements in the region are because of this river and all the Irish heritage is also the direct result of this mighty river. If you are a lover of nature than probably the most wonderful thing would be going on a long boat tour and exploring the beauty of its banks. A number of adventures could be found along its banks such as the ancient city of Clonmacnoise which is probably the most important site on the river bank which is about to be included in the list of World Heritage Sites. While visiting Shannon you must visit this 6th century monastic settlement which annually attracts more than hundred thousand visitors. There is a high cross, a round tower and a number of churches. Some of the ancient writings in Ireland belongs to this place.

Another important destination on Shannon bank but very different from Clonmacnoise is Zipit Forest Adventure Centre located in the park. 20 meter high zip wire pumps adrenalin through your brain and the thrill lives with you year after year. Because of this safe and unique experience thousands of people travel to this location and recharge. Besides dragging yourself on the rope you can enjoying camping and tours through the forest.
